Tears for Fears will revisit their acclaimed 1989 album The Seeds of Love with a new Deluxe Edition, set for release on October 16, 2026, through UMR/Universal Music.
According to Louder Sound, which is the main source for this story, the new edition will feature brand-new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes created by Steven Wilson, alongside a substantial collection of B-sides, demos, alternate mixes, radio edits and other rare recordings from the era.
Originally released in September 1989, The Seeds of Love became one of Tears for Fears’ most ambitious albums. The record reached No. 1 in the UK and No. 8 on the US Billboard 200, while also earning Platinum certification in both the UK and the United States.
Released in September 1989, the album, heavily influenced by The Beatles, was both a commercial and critical triumph. It debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and achieved Platinum certification from the BPI within just three weeks. In the United States, it also went Platinum, reaching No. 8 on the Billboard Top 200.
“Out of all our albums, I’d probably rank it highest,”says Roland Orzabal. “I think it surprised a lot of people, a lot of our peers as well, and people who maybe we were being compared to in the mid-Eighties.”
Roland Orzabal reflected on the album in the new announcement, saying: “Out of all our albums, I’d probably rank it highest. I think it surprised a lot of people, a lot of our peers as well.”
Curt Smith added that several of the album’s songs have remained important to the band decades later, specifically mentioning “Woman In Chains,” “Badman’s Song,” “Sowing The Seeds Of Love” and “Advice For The Young At Heart” as songs they still perform live.
The expanded 3CD edition will include the remastered original album, B-sides, radio versions, alternate mixes and rare recordings. Other editions will include vinyl releases and a limited Blu-ray featuring the new audio mixes.
